SEMINAR: Air

We are delighted to host the fourth of the new SAHGB/IHR/Wellcome Collections Partnership seminar series.

This occasional seminar series will expand the sharp focus on hospital architecture to understand the history of spaces of sickness and health in wider socio-cultural contexts. Sessions will take varied formats and encourage discussion.

In the fourth of our seminars on Spaces of Sickness and Wellbeing, Alistair Fair chairs a series of papers on the importance of ventilation and its control from the wider environment to hospital wards.

The management of air through and around medical buildings has been of concern since the Romans located their hospital on an island in the River Tiber.

In the fourth session of our seminar series on Spaces of Sickness and Wellbeing, Alistair Fair brings together eminent scholars addressing this topic that has become central to our lives in 2020-21.

Papers will discuss: the history of infection control; airborne infection transmission; air & infection in the C19th and waterbath modelling of air in hospital wards.

Speakers:

Annmarie Adams (McGill University)

Marguerite Dupree (Universities of Glasgow and Oxford)

Cath Noakes (University of Leeds)

Henrik Schoenefeldt (University of Kent)

Alan Short (University of Cambridge)

For the foreseeable future the SAHGB Seminars will be virtual events via Zoom. We will circulate joining instructions via email the morning of the scheduled event. Please complete the form below to register.
