  • The Society makes grants towards research twice a year, in Spring and Autumn. A new process is now in place for 2024.

    Please note that individual awards will rarely exceed the maximum amount referenced on the application guidelines. We advise you to include the amount you wish to apply for, and what it would fund, as part of your application.

    Applicants should be aware that:

    A) Grants are not awarded for expenses that will already have been incurred before the deadline date.

    B) Applications for the May deadline should be made with the expectation that funds may be spent from June of the same year. Applications for the October deadline should be made with the expectation that any funds may be spent from November of the same year.

  • The C. F. A. Voysey Society and the SAHGB are working as partners to offer a grant of up £1,000 to fund a research project on the architecture and context of the architect Charles Francis Annesley Voysey (1857 - 1941). We welcome applications that explore the wider context of the Arts and Crafts in the British Isles and beyond, though preference will be given to applications that establish a clear link with Voysey. The same terms and conditions apply as for the SAHGB’s standard research grant calls.

The Girouard Fund

In 2023 the Society of Architectural Historians established The Girouard Fund to support research and publications in architectural history. The Fund was created in memory of the prolific architectural historian, author, and campaigner Mark Girouard (1931-2022).

As well as a generous bequest from the estate of Jonathan Vickers, the Arnold Hayward Stevenson Educational Trust Fund, and contributions from our members and English Heritage, our educational activities (and Doctoral Scholarships) have been generously supported by the Barnsbury Charitable Trust, the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, the Drake Trust, the Ernest Cook Trust, the Follett Trust, the Thriplow Charitable Trust, CHK Charities Limited, and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
