Update on RIBA’s House of Architecture Programme and its impact on the British Architectural Library

We have just received this update from the team at RIBA who have confirmed plans for when 66 Portland Place will close to the public to begin works for the House of Architecture project. The House of Architecture web pages have been updated with info.

The impact on the Library is as follows (and will go online on RIBA’s Library webpages shortly):

Opening hours

Usual opening hours are:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 11am to 5pm (closed on Fridays from 8 November 2024)

  • Tuesday: 12pm to 7pm

  • Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays: Closed

Upcoming temporary closures

  • From Friday 8 November 2024 the RIBA Library will be closed on Fridays. This is to allow staff to support the collections moves required ahead of refurbishment. These moves may mean that parts of the collection become temporarily unavailable, but service disruption will be kept to a minimum. Please keep an eye on the RIBA website for updates on opening times and collection moves.

  • The Library will close for an all-day staff event on Wednesday 11 December 2024.

  • The Library will be closed for Christmas from Thursday 19 December 2024 at 5pm, re-opening on Monday 13 January 2025 at 11am.

  • The Library will temporarily be closed to the public from Thursday April 10 2025 to enable the move out of the building ahead of its refurbishment. The aim is to reopen our library service in a new, temporary home in September 2025, with a London location that is hoped to be confirmed shortly.
