Looking Back, Looking Forward: the Work and Legacy of Mark Girouard

 

The event “Looking Back, Looking Forward: the Work and Legacy of Mark Girouard” held on 26 October 2024 at The Courtauld Institute of Art, celebrated the life and contribution of renowned architectural historian Mark Girouard. Organised by the SAHGB, the Courtauld, and the University of Kent the symposium included contributions from a range of distinguished speakers and attendees who reflected on Girouard's influence in the field. The day featured panels on different historical eras and a roundtable on future directions for architectural history. Highlights included personal anecdotes, the significant impact of Girouard’s work, and the announcement of future initiatives to honour his legacy, including an annual symposium and an edited volume.
